I am posting today from my G4 mac tower. My little iBook had a crisis the other evening, and it's now being given some much needed TLC. I took it to a local mac servicing shop, and they told me the logic board had given up, and it's an $850 repair. Needless to say, for that price, I would have to let my little iBook join many laptops that have bravely gone before it to the grave. Alas. (It's a G3, and it's it's 3 years old already...) However, the friendly shop clerk told me to give Apple a ring and ask them to extend the service because the logic baord was already replaced. Low and behold, if you ask nicely, you might just find... you get what you WANT. Haha. I win. I simply adore Apple and I will never go to the barren wasteland-ish hell that regular PC land. HP can kiss my ass. (So can every other company really.)

In other news, I am still job hunting. I have read a thousand different advertisements for positions, but half of them should have a health warning: risk of death by boredom if you accept this job. Seriously. *shudder* On the up side, there are always other jobs. I pity the people forced to take these positions, though. This is exactly why I'm going back to school. I want to do what I want with my life.

I've been reading New Scientist faithfully since I returned home. It was my shipping included Christmas gift to dad this past year. Although, thinking on it now, it's really a gift to anyone who has a cup of tea in the morning at my house. They had a hilarious bit in the last issue that focused on love, and the titles were hilarious:

- Passionate brains
- Sniffing out the perfect partner
- Possession and obsession
- Where brokeback went wrong
- Smart ways to woo
- Desmond Tute: compassion
- Up close and virtual
- How to make it last
- PLUS Three pages of mates and dates

It's this last one that caught my eye. Some of these little NS dating blurbs were eye-watering hilarity in less than 100 words. So, in the spirit of generosity, I will share a few with you...

"MIKE, a Forensic Technician looking love! She was last seen committing crimes in the heart of Wollongong. So let's get together and replicate some DNA!! Reply number: 015"

"SCIENTIST, 39, male, own teeth, some original hair, tired after completion of PhD seeks excitement with cute, chatty woman in Worcester area. Reply number: 031"

"ACTIVE AGEING from a personal perspective? Yorkshire widow, 84, involved in the community and still riding a bike, WLTM other active octgenarians. Reply number: 037"

HELLO CHEESY!

"ARTS GRADUATE (M 51) (UK, London) tennis-playing, dog-walking, soap-watching & infrequent reader of NS hoping to understand something (anything?) of quantum theory, would appreciate contact from similarly confused female. Reply number 068"

"SPARKS AND explosions abound in my professional life as a chemistry teacher, less so on the personal side. Mid-fifties F, much travelled, mischievious smile, looking for a warm-hearted gentleman. (Bishop's Stortford) Reply number: 103"

The list goes on, of course, but some of them I could barely even understand. (Jovian age!) That magazine is worth its weight in gold for amusement value alone.

Moving on, the weather was perfect yesterday and today I'd rathe around a 5 or 6. Nothing catastrophic has occurred (yet - screams my inner optimist), but it's a bit chilly and windy and generally inhospitable. Today is Friday! Not that means much when you're a M-F 9-5er, but still, it seems to have its own special sparkle. (Which definitely is not because of its television programming. Friday is a blackhole of rubbish TV.) (Which is good, really, I like doing things on Friday nights anyway!) I was thinking of Mexicali Rosa's, but we shall see if it pans out. I have to work from 6-9pm this evening, so there's that as well to deal with first.

Anyways, I have responsible things to attend to... Have a lovely Friday, world.
